Southern California Outreach for Pharmacy Education (SCOPE)

Housed under the departments of Recruitment & Outreach and the Office of Organizational Success and Well-being, SCOPE aims to educate and empower high school students from underrepresented backgrounds to explore pharmacy & pharmaceutical sciences pathways. Students at USC Mann, lead our efforts as SCOPE ambassadors in our three programs: High School Outreach, SCOPE Saturday Academy, and Mentorship. Find out more about these programs, and how you can get involved or support our SCOPE ambassadors and high school SCOPE scholars.

SCOPE High School Outreach

The SCOPE High School Outreach program is currently partnered with the following high schools across LAUSD: John C. Fremont Senior High, Francisco Bravo Magnet Medical High School, Academy of Medical Arts at Carson Complex & Woodrow Wilson Senior High.

Our outreach focuses on giving students a baseline level of knowledge of what the pharmacy practice area entails. A typical outreach event contains the following elements:

  • Introduction to SCOPE and SCOPE Programs
  • Overview of Career Pathways in Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Interactive Patient Cases involving relevant disease states to the community (Hypertension, Diabetes, Opioid Use Disorder, Naloxone Administration)
  • Higher Education Pathway Guidance
  • SCOPE Ambassador Q/A
  • Mental Health Presentation (Special Request)
  • Clinical Pharmacy Presentation (Special Request)

SCOPE Saturday Academy
