SCOPE Scholars Mentorship Program

Mission

The SCOPE Scholars Mentorship Program is designed to enhance the interpersonal and professional skills of minority/underrepresented high school students that participated in SCOPE Saturday Academy. Our curriculum development equips students with the knowledge and resources to confidently pursue a higher education and future healthcare career. We provide opportunities that encourage hands-on pharmacy practice experience.

Curriculum

5-month long program where mentees will meet with their mentors to focus on:
Undergraduate Applications
○ We provide resources and advice on navigating college websites, tuition, application questions, SAT/ACT prep, and FAFSA.
Lab Skills and Health Fair Operations
○ We help build your technical skills by teaching you how to perform health screenings and apply your acquired knowledge through shadowing pharmacy students at health fairs.
Career Exploration
○ We review and use your interpersonal skills and interests to identify potential pharmacy careers that align with your personality and goals.
Pre-career Advising
○ We assist in outlining what job/volunteer opportunities are available for you based on your interest/goals and provide useful information on how to maneuver the workforce.
Resume Building and Interview Skills
○ We share our knowledge on how to properly build a resume and field questions during an interview.

Events/Opportunities

SCOPE Scholar Networking Event
○ Mentees will have the opportunity to network and make connections with current USC Undergraduates, Pharmacy students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff at the USC Health Sciences Campus.
Participate in a Health Fair
○ Mentees will have the opportunity to volunteer in a health fair to serve the Los Angeles community and shadow SCOPE mentors while they perform health screenings and patient education.
Research/Clinical Experience
○ Mentees will have premier access to apply for clinical and/or research based internships affiliated with USC
