Waivers

No. All students enrolled in 6 or more credits; all international students; and all students enrolled in health professions degree programs are required to pay the student health fee; they then have access to campus health services. This appears on each semester’s student financial account.

Yes. If you have a plan that meets the minimum requirements of the university, you may submit documentation to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP/Aetna). ONLINE and IN PERSON students who have their own plan must submit a waiver by the Friday of the third week of classes, each fall semester, in order to reverse automatic enrollment in SHIP/Aetna.

Survivors may choose to have a sexual assault forensic exam to preserve possible DNA evidence and receive important medical care. The process gives survivors the chance to safely store evidence if/when they decide to prosecute. The length of the exam may take a few hours, but the actual time will vary based on several different factors.

It may be helpful to have a support person—a friend to give you emotional support—as you go through this process. An Advocate can stay with you throughout any exam or any follow up process that you may choose to pursue.

Immunizations

Yes. If you are in an in-person degree program, you are required to meet the immunization requirements.

If you think you may have been assaulted while incapacitated/unconscious, we encourage that you still contact an advocate to explore your medical concerns and forensic options as soon as possible after the incident. For more information regarding drug and alcohol facilitated sexual assaults contact an RSVP advocate.

No. Only students who are in in-person classes are required to meet the immunization requirements.

Copays

No. There are no co-pays or other out-of-pocket visit fees, or billing to insurance, for appointment visits with providers in Student Health. Insurance does apply for lab and radiology services, immunizations, and care-related equipment (crutches and boots).

Note: Provider services outside of Student Health (for example, Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services, the private practice on the 5th floor of Engemann), prescriptions and pharmacy services, etc., may require co-pays when using your insurance.

Patient Privacy

Yes. Your records are private and confidential in compliance with ethical and legal standards including FERPA and HIPAA.
