Vanessa R. Abernathy, PsyD is counselor for crisis services at Engemann Health Center and clinical assistant professor of the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Keck School of Medicine of USC. Abernathy earned her PsyD in clinical psychology and master’s in psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary (School of Psychology) and earned her master’s in divinity from Duke University.

As a therapist, Abernathy specializes in crisis intervention, treatment of anxiety and depression, emotional abuse recovery, identity development in LGBTQQIA+ college students, integration of spirituality and psychology, and recovery from interpersonal injury such as family distress and infidelity. She joined USC Student Health in 2021.
