Why do therapists ask about suicidality when I call about services?

Screening questions, including about suicidality, allow therapists to triage potentially life-threatening situations so that clients are safe. All client concerns are of great importance and will be directed to services; this question allows routing of calls to proceed as quickly and safely as possible.

Does my visit with USC Student Health require a co-pay?

Services in USC Student Health are made available through the USC Student Health Fee; no co-pays are required.

Is there a specific limit (number) of sessions I can have in Student Health?

No; there are no numeric session limits. Because the goal of Counseling and Mental Health Services is to provide care for as many students in need as possible, students who may have longer-term treatment as a recommended plan may be referred to therapists in the community, often insurance-based (such as the Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services clinic located on the 5th floor of Engemann), to continue a longer term plan.
